Thanks for the music

I mentioned Bobby Sherman at a dinner party the other night and was met with blank stares. It comes from spending time with young ‘uns, but you know who Bobby Sherman is, don’t you?

Perhaps if I mentioned listening to Dan Fogelberg in my younger years, I’d get the same reaction. But you know who Dan Fogelberg is, don’t you? I was saddened to hear of his death yesterday. He was only 56 years old, far too young for this voice to be silenced. He died of prostate cancer and left a message for men before he died. Read it and do what he says. Now, before it’s too late. Thanks for the songs, Dan. You kept many of us company those many years ago.

Thanks for the entry on Dan Fogelberg. Went to the links, downloaded, and saved the PDF on Prostate Cancer. Have been living with an elevated PSA for years and so far two biopsies have indicatred no cancer.

Thank you for bringing up Dan; his music was quite instrumentally soothing in my high school and college years.

Thank goodness my husband has been checked!

P.S. I saw a picture of my old room the other day; there was the Bobby Sherman poster, front and center.

Like others, I spent high school and after listening to Dan Fogelberg’s melodic voice and words. I aspired to play and sing his kind of music. It is so sad that he has passed from among us, and the music world is a little poorer at his passing, but enriched by his life.

My BFF in Junior High loved, no, PINED for Bobby Sherman. I could only watch in bemusement, even then! :-)

I felt quite saddened, for somewhat inexplicable reasons, when I heard about Dan’s death. Funny how it feels so natural to call people who touch us by their first names… I admired his dedication to his craft and his willingness to pursue what was meaningful for him even after he got successful. Another wrinkle in time in our understanding of innocence…

I had a Bobby Sherman lunch box when I was a kid. I think it may have been a hand me down, but I thought he was cute.

There are many tender moments in my past that are brought to mind each time I hear a Dan Fogelberg song. His music was and is a huge part of my life. I am still mourning his passing. I hope all men (and the women who love them) will take Dan’s messages on prostate cancer seriously and to heart. Early detection is so important. God’s speed Dan.
