your daily rock : build a bridge

What is a bridge? What does a bridge do?

I had a powerful conversation about those two questions in a class I was teaching one summer. We drew bridges to remind ourselves of their structure. We talked about what we know about bridges: They connect things, they span distances, they make reaching other places possible, they are able to bear great weight, they have to expand and contract and respond to the wind, they are stable because they are well grounded, and–ultimately–they are well-grounded in a shared earth, however separated those ends are by a great distance.

So, too, with the bridges between humans.

Build a bridge today.

Love,
