Read More Ingestible Books

I just have to tell you again how much I love this book. Here’s my recent tweet about it (image below). The delicious writing, the ways in which he draws in the reader by speaking directly to us, the tone and tenor–everything. It is a sensory experience, a rambunctious torrent of words to get swept up in and ride away on. I immediately started reading it again once I finished it.

I hope you will read it so we can all sit around the fire pit in the middle of winter and be warmed by it. It started me thinking about reading books about Black joy, and I’m curious about which books you know that would fit that bill. I would love to know. The ones I’ve found thus far are mostly romance novels, which isn’t exactly what I mean when I say “Black joy,” though I’m sure there is some joy there.

The other book I need you to read is Ayad Aktar’s Homeland Elegies. My god, what a masterpiece. I am tracking my 2023 reading in a photo album on my Facebook page, in case you’d like to friend me and follow along.
