Barnes & Noble teams up with LIAV to do good for our poor and homeless neighbors

Tampa Thanks to the efforts of Delaney Kirk, I will visit three Florida cities next week to do readings and teach a few university classes: Tampa (Dec 4), St. Petersburg (Dec 5), and Sarasota (Dec 6).

St PetersburgBarnes & Noble USF Campus (500 Third St)

Two of those readings will be at Barnes & Noble stores, and Delaney has arranged a deal with them that will help a fantastic charity, Metropolitan Ministries, whose mission is to reach out to poor, hungry and homeless men, women and children in their time of need — providing life-changing answers. This is not only for people in Florida, but can be used worldwide at Barnes & Noble stores between December 4-9, 2008 to help Metropolitan Ministries do their work in the world.

Barnes and Noble has agreed to donate 10% of all sales IN ANY BARNES AND NOBLE STORE December 4-9 to Metropolitan Ministries. This includes all books, not just my new one, Life is a Verb. You'll need a voucher to ensure the 10% gets credited to Metropolitan Ministries, and you can find a link to download that voucher here. Please help if you can.

NORTH CAROLINA READING – I'll also be reading in the church I grew up in–Calvary Baptist Church–this Sunday, November 30th, in Morganton, North Carolina. This is a reading to benefit Burke Hospice, the folks who helped me understand what was happening and what I needed to do when my stepfather died, the man whose death sparked the writing of 37days. He was leader in that church. So it feels like I'm coming full circle in being there. If you are near Morganton, it'll be 2-4pm at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, November 30th. Rumor has it that the librarian who gave me my first job, at the Morganton-Burke Public Library, will also be there! (See page 80 in Life is a Verb for that story).
