Saluda, here I come!

RandomArts Repeatedly, I kept getting emails from people who had bought Life is a Verb at a store called Random Arts in Saluda, North Carolina. "I asked for a book recommendation," one woman wrote, "and the owner of the store immediately handed me your book." Over and over again, people called and wrote with a similar story.

One day, an email appeared in my inbox. "I love your book," the writer said, "and if you're ever back in North Carolina, I'd love to host you in my small store in Saluda in Western NC."

I wrote her back. "I live in Asheville," I said. "I'd love to come!"

And so, Jane has single-handedly made Life is a Verb a bestseller at her store, Random Arts! People from all over come to this unique creative space in the mountains of Western North Carolina for arts classes and retreats – and I'll be going there tomorrow at last to meet the fabulous Jane and do a reading and book signing. Mr Brilliant, Tess, and I will drop Emma off at the barn to ride horses in the freezing weather, bundle ourselves up, and make a day of it. Road trip! Come join us if you can!

Do you know folks who live in Western North Carolina or the Upstate of South Carolina? If so, I hope you'll pass this along to them as a possible Saturday afternoon activity tomorrow (Jan 31st at 1pm). I'm thinking fun will be had.

  • I love Random Arts! I stumbled across it when I was in the area a few years ago visiting from SC. I wandered in one day and next thing I knew I was taking a class in collage making. Your book wasn’t around yet, but I did leave with 2 or 3 books on Jane’s recommendation… one was by SARK, it was my first exposure to her. I found you through Skirt! I also have two daughters. I look forward to reading your book!

sounds great– i wish i could be there!

  • I just found your book yesterday. It is the kind of book you want to savor, to converse with, just as you mention. I have already had quite a nice chat with you and I am only on page 7! I write so my kids will know me too. Do you have Chicago on your calendar anytime soon?
